These Terms and Conditions apply to everyone who uses expatlisting.com (the “site”), including visitors, people who create an account, businesses that are listed or that add or claim a listing, and people who leave reviews. Please read them carefully. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. About us
The site is operated under the trading name ExpatListing (“we”, “us”, “our”). You can contact us at hello@expatlisting.com. Our full company name and registered address will be published here once our company has been incorporated.
ExpatListing is a directory of businesses and services for people moving to or living in another country, together with country guides about life abroad.
2. Using the site
- You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes, and businesses may use it to manage their own listings.
- You must not use the site in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent or harmful, or that could damage, overload or impair it.
- You must not copy, scrape or harvest listings, contact details or other content from the site by automated means, or use them to send unsolicited messages.
- You must not try to gain unauthorised access to the site, to accounts that are not yours or to our systems.
- We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time.
3. Guides and information
Our guides and other content are general information only. They are not legal, tax, immigration, financial, medical or insurance advice and should not be relied on as such. Rules, fees and requirements change, so please check with the relevant official body or a suitably qualified professional before you act. Please read our Disclaimer and Advertising Policy for more detail.
4. Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- You must give accurate information and keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. You may close your account at any time by contacting us.
5. Business listings
- Listing a business on the site is currently free. If we introduce paid plans or paid features, they will be offered under separate terms that you will need to accept before paying.
- Some listings are created by us from information that the business has made publicly available, for example on its own website. A business can ask us to correct or remove its listing at any time by emailing hello@expatlisting.com.
- If you add or edit a listing, you confirm that you are authorised to act for the business, that the information is accurate, up to date and not misleading, and that you have the right to publish any text, logos and images you provide.
- We currently accept listings only for the countries that the site covers. We may review, edit, refuse or remove any listing, for example if it is inaccurate, duplicated, misleading, unlawful or outside the scope of the site.
- Including a business on the site is not an endorsement, recommendation or guarantee of that business. You deal with any business entirely at your own risk and should make your own checks.
6. Claiming a listing
- A business owner or authorised representative may claim a listing so that they can manage it.
- We may ask for information to confirm that you are entitled to claim the listing, and we may refuse or reverse a claim if we cannot confirm this.
- Making a false claim, or claiming a listing for a business that you do not represent, is a breach of these terms and may be unlawful. We will remove access and may report it.
- A “Verified” badge means that we have carried out checks on the business or on its control of the listing. It is not an endorsement or a guarantee of the quality of the business’s services.
7. Reviews
- Reviews must be based on your own genuine experience of the business and must be honest and fair.
- You must not post a review of your own business, of a business you are connected with, or of a competitor, and you must not post a review in return for payment, a discount, a gift or any other incentive.
- Businesses must not offer incentives for reviews, must not post or commission fake reviews, and must not pressure customers to change or remove reviews.
- We may check, decline or remove reviews that appear fake, incentivised, offensive, unlawful or unrelated to the business. We do not remove or hide a review simply because it is negative.
- A business may reply publicly to a review about it.
- If you think a review is fake or breaches these terms, please report it to hello@expatlisting.com.
8. Content you provide
You keep ownership of the content you submit, such as listing details, images and reviews. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt and display that content on the site and in our newsletter and social media for as long as it remains on the site and for a reasonable period afterwards. You confirm that your content does not infringe anyone else’s rights, is not defamatory, unlawful or misleading, and does not contain personal information about other people without their permission.
9. Advertising and featured placements
The site carries adverts and may show featured or sponsored listings. These are explained in our Disclaimer and Advertising Policy. Advertisers do not decide what we write in our guides.
10. Our content and intellectual property
The site and its content, including our guides, design, text and logo, belong to us or our licensors. You may view and print pages for your own personal use, but you must not copy, republish or sell our content without our written permission. Some photographs are used under licence from their owners.
11. Links to other websites
The site links to websites run by businesses and other third parties. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, products, services or privacy practices.
12. Our liability
- We take reasonable care over the site, but it is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that it will always be available, error-free or up to date.
- We are not responsible for the products, services, advice, conduct or prices of any business listed or advertised on the site, or for any agreement you make with such a business.
- If you use the site as a consumer, we are only responsible for loss or damage that was a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our negligence. We are not responsible for business losses.
- If you use the site for business purposes, we will not be liable for loss of profits, sales, business, revenue, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
13. Reporting content and removal requests
If you believe that anything on the site is inaccurate, unlawful, infringes your rights or breaches these terms, please email hello@expatlisting.com with a link to the page and an explanation, including any request from a business for its listing to be corrected or removed. We aim to acknowledge requests within five working days.
14. Privacy
We use personal information as described in our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. If you continue to use the site after a change, the updated terms will apply.
16. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom or in another country, you also keep the benefit of any mandatory protections that apply under the law of the place where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
